I’ve been into fashion ever since Lauren graduated from Laguna Beach and moved to The Hills. I was 16, and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I mean, come on, what 16 year old fashionista doesn’t want to play dress up for a living? Obviously 12 years later it’s still my dream job, so it’s not surprising I get asked often “where do you get your outfit ideas from?” Well, today I’m spilling the beans and sharing exactly how and where I get my outfit inspiration. Hopefully this will be helpful to some of you, especially if you’ve ever had to pack for a trip, or pick out an outfit for an event that’s out of your comfort zone!

Where to Find Outfit Ideas
Ok, there are a few tried and true places I always recommend for outfit inspiration. Here are my top five:
- Pinterest – this is a great place to start. Have an article of clothing that you’re not sure how to style? Go to Pinterest and search for it. For example, “plaid skirt outfit ideas.” This will give you tons of outfits you can peruse and will hopefully give you some ideas on pieces to wear with the item you’re not sure how to style. You can also follow me on Pinterest (click here!) for outfit inspo, I pin all my own outfits as well as other great ideas and tips and tricks I find on the app!
- Google – doesn’t get much simpler than “Google it!” Seriously, we live in the world of blogging – I can guarantee a blogger has written a post that will help you to style whatever you need, or get dressed for a big event.
- Instagram – OK, you had to know this would be on the list. Follow bloggers on Instagram for non-stop outfit inspiration, or go to the ‘Explore’ page and search the hashtags. I frequently tag items of clothing that I’m wearing in a post, like #denimjacket, #plaidskirt or #bloggerstyle. This will give you SO MANY IDEAS. Sometimes I find it’s even better than Pinterest! Give it a try, and make sure you’re following me on IG here!
- Online Stores – this one might surprise you but it’s a tip I recently discovered. I was looking around on Nordstrom.com the other day, just checking out what new stuff they might have in that I can’t live without, when I discovered they have different pages for things like “Vacation: Pack Your Bags,” and “Trend Report.” I clicked on the pages and found a ton of different outfit ideas, all linked to the individual items. Is that cool, or am I just late to the game? LOL, let me know in the comments 😉
- Ask Your Friends – last one sounds simple, and that’s because it is. Just ask your friends! My girlfriends and I will send each other pics of our outfits to get the other’s opinions, or we’ll ask for ideas on what to pair with a certain piece. It’s fun, easy, and free, and no one knows you better than your BFFs.
How I Get My Outfit Inspiration
You may think it’s kinda weird, but in all honesty, I get most of my outfit ideas straight from my imagination. I def use all the above tools, but most of the time my outfits just come to me. I tend to get dressed super last minute, just because I feel like my best looks are always the ones that are unplanned and thrown together (also, I’m lazy and a procrastinator). Maybe the trick is that I don’t give myself time to overthink it. I’ll also get ideas just by seeing a particular piece in a store or online and immediately think of how I would wear it. I guess this is a good thing for me since I’m a blogger, def makes it easier!

I get the majority of my style inspiration from Instagram! With that said, I sometimes get inspiration from just shopping & looking through items! So many ideas can pop into your head regarding new pieces or something you already have back at home!
