Well, I’m a little embarrassed…I packed WAY too much stuff for New York. I totally did not need to take more than like, 15 clothing items (including shoes and jewelry!). I’m telling you, packing like a minimalist is hard! I’m glad I had this chance to practice so I can avoid any packing fails for my next trip. Here are the outfits I ACTUALLY wore, and what I would do differently!
NYC Outfits & Packing Fails
This outfit was perfect for the plane ride from PDX to NYC. It’s super versatile and I was ready to go the minute I stepped off the plane.
Friday night we went out in the East Village, which I’d describe as “trendy hipster neighborhood.” I went pretty casual with this hippie dress and fringe heels. One tip though…after walking around all day, the LAST thing you want is to wear heels…so unless you’re going to be partying somewhere you have to wear them, don’t even bring them. This was one my first packing fails of the trip LOL. Also, I’m currently addicted to rose gold jewelry! Check out Stella and Dot, they’re spendy, but their jewelry is amazing!
The next day was rough, and all I wanted was to be comfy. My Nike leggings came in handy once again, and I paired them with a simple high-low tee, cardigan, and booties. I call this “the hangover outfit” (it’s perfect if you need to take a quick catnap too 😉 ).
After a wonderful nap, it was time to get ready for the club! We were going Salsa dancing, so I went a bit more sexy with this powder blue dress from Urban Outfitters. It was great for dancing and still quite sexy 😉
Thankfully, it wasn’t hard to get up on Sunday so I decided to dress a little trendy with my black Liverpool Jeans Company jeggings from Stitch Fix and an asymmetrical tank. I had to layer my Columbia Sportswear jacket over it during parts of the day, as it was a little chilly near the water and this was the day we went to Liberty Island.
Sunday night we stayed in the Upper West Side about a block away from Central Park. We were exhausted but it was our last night and we wanted to take advantage, so we went out to a local college bar. After changing into this striped sleeveless Portofino shirt from Express, I was ready to rock!
On Monday it was time to say our goodbyes to the city of New York. We were going to walk Central Park and visit two museums. and then head straight to the airport, so I just decided to keep it casual with a striped tee and a knit sweater. It was the perfect versatile outfit for NYC to PDX and it was super comfy for the plane ride as well!
Well, that sums it up for my NYC outfits. As you can see, I did not end up needing everything I brought (see this post for my full packing list). There weren’t a ton of packing fails, but it is good to know that I tend to be an over packer! Do you tend to over pack or under pack? Let me know in the comments!
