As you guys may have seen on my Instagram, I went on a little trip last week with my madre! She was in Portland that week, so we decided to drive back down to Southern Oregon along the Oregon coast route, Highway 101, for some Vitamin Sea. Here’s a little overview of our trip – where we went, what we did, and where we stayed!
First Stop, Coach!
We actually started out by heading Southern on I-5 to the Woodburn Outlets. If you guys have never stopped in here, you definitely should! There are lots of name brands shops with discounted prices, like The North Face, Vans, etc. We stopped at the Coach store and it turned out they were having a MEGA sale!
The Oregon Coast Route
After we left the Coach store in Woodburn, we drove South on I-5 to Albany, then took Highway 34 (which turned in to Highway 20) all the way to Newport, Oregon. We stopped in Newport to walk along the beach because it was a beautiful day! Then we drove on to Seal Rock, and then on down to Florence. We stopped in Florence and had a bowl of soup at the Waterfront Depot Restaurant since we were pretty hungry. It was really yummy with big chunks of clam, and the view from the dining room is really nice as well! After that, we drove the rest of the way down to Coos Bay, where we arrived at The Mill Casino!
The Mill Casino
The Mill Casino was our destination for the night, so we checked in there and decided to play some slots for a bit. My mom is super lucky and always wins, but unfortunately, I definitely did not inherit that luck lol. Regardless, we had fun and it was a nice way to pass the time. It’s a pretty nice casino really, not overly smokey and the rooms are nice. We had a beautiful view of the river/bay area, and there’s a great fireplace in the lodge where you can sit and chat and have a drink.
For dinner I just grabbed some fish and chips from the café in the casino. I don’t know about you, but I feel like it should be considered a crime to go to the coast and not eat fish and chips! These were pretty darn tasty, and we turned in fairly early after eating.
On the Road Again!
The next morning we got up early (we woke up at 5am!!) and decided to grab breakfast at The Pancake Mill, which is just across the street from the casino. The portions are always huge at breakfast places, so we split a traditional breakfast with eggs, hash browns, toast, and pancakes, and then got back on the road for Southern Oregon! On the way back we took Highway 101 down to 42, which put us out back on I-5 North of Canyonville. Then we just took I-5 the rest of the way to The Rogue Valley!
It was a really nice trip, and the weather made it even better! I’ve been feeling so drained lately with all the rain and gray in Portland, so the ocean and sunny weather was exactly what I needed to lift my spirits 🙂
I actually love taking the Oregon Coast route sometimes instead of boring old I-5, it’s a great change of scenery! Have you lovelies ventured over to the Oregon Coast at all? Let me know in the comments, as well as your favorite place to visit on the coast!

I grew up in Oregon and love the coast. Seaside and Cannon Beach are the go to spots!

Cannon Beach is amazing! I worked in Seaside for a summer so I have to admit, it’s not my most favorite 🙂 I think I’m particularly fond of Brookings, just cause I grew up in Southern Oregon and that’s where my friends and I would go!

Ahh you were in my state! We usually go to the northern to central coast since we’re in Portland and it’s closer, but I love the central to southern coast where you were. I love driving the entire Oregon Coast since you get to see how very different it is up north in Astoria, to the central coast, and the southern coast. Looks like you had nice sunshine for these pics!

I live in Portland too! Yes the weather was beautiful, we got really lucky! Growing up, I would always go to Brookings since we lived in Southern Oregon, but now that I live in Portland, Seaside and Lincoln City are the go-to’s 🙂

I have never been to Oregon, but these pics are amazing and inviting. In a year or two, the family will be driving from the east coast to the west coast and I definitely want to visit places like this. Thanks for giving me something to think about.
