Happy Friday lovelies! Now, you guys know I love my neutrals, and I feel most comfortable when I’m wearing nudes, blacks, and grays. That being said, I do enjoy adding a pop of color every now and then to mix it up! So if you’re a basic b!tch like me but want to start incorporating color into your outfits, then keep reading (and try out these orange sandals, cause they’re fab)!

First off, I always start with a an outfit that fits with my personal style. I love comfortable pieces and neutral colors, so I started out with my Mother Denim distressed jeans and a beige knit sweater from Old Navy. Since the colors of these pieces are neutral, I always try to choose ones that have details – like an undone hem for the jeans, and rounded hemline for the sweater.

Second, when I’m adding my color, I always choose a color that is either jewel toned, or soft. I liked the look of these orange sandals from Qupid (available here) because the tone is more burnt and muted, instead of vibrant and neon. A more muted tone makes me feel like I’m not stepping too far from my personal style by wearing something brighter than what I like.

Also, I rarely ever wear more than one colorful piece per outfit. I like to keep it to a minimum, and if I’m adding color, I want that item to be the focus of my look.

Lastly, it’s really important to me that when I choose pieces that are more colorful than my normal palette, I make DARN sure that they are comfortable, and that the style fits with me. I don’t know how many times I’ve purchased a piece thinking that I would work the color into my wardrobe, only to realize that the style of the item doesn’t work with me whatsoever.

To recap, start with an outfit that totally compliments the colorful item you’ll be wearing and embodies your personal style. Then add the colored piece, but make sure you’re comfortable wearing the tone (for me, it has to be a jewel tone or a muted color, no neons here!). Make sure the piece still fits with your personal style in all other aspects. If you’re a classic girl and you’re trying to incorporate bright fuschia spikey sandals, it’s probably not gonna go over so well…

That’s it babes! Hope you all enjoyed, and let me know in the comments what your personal style is! Are you edgy, classic, boho? Do you love color or are you a vampire like me? Lol, I hope to hear from you!

xo,
