You may have heard (from every blogger on the face of the planet) that the 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is currently underway. I’m not gonna lie, I was among those bloggers who were super hyped up to shop the sale…that is, until it actually came. After seeing the items included in the sale, I started wondering if all the hype was justified. So in this post I’m sharing the pros and cons and my favorite products. If you had to guess now, what would you think? Is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale worth it?

Shopping the 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Online
I first shopped online and found a couple pieces that I wanted immediately and that I would be devastated if they sold out. I ordered these for pick up in-store so I could grab them after work the same day! Unfortunately, none of the items I ordered online ended up working out, and one of the sweaters I ordered actually ended up being cancelled from my order because they sold out before my order was filled. The funny thing though was that I actually went back the next day and found the sweater still available, in the exact size I ordered…so needless to say I sent an angry e-mail to Nordstrom berating them for not giving a shit about my order. Then I didn’t buy the sweater on principal LOL #AngryPregnantLadyAlert. The other sweater was just not cute, and the boots I ordered ended up being way to small (even though I went up 1/2 a size). These are the items I first purchased online:
I’ve had my eye on the Marc Fishter Ltd Yentia Chelsea boots for literally months, but I was NOT about to pay full price for them. Is it just me, or does paying more than $100 for one item feel like a crime?? Yeah, it’s probably just me LOL #BargainShopperAlert. I definitely think these boots are a great item from the sale. Marc Fisher is a really good brand and getting a pair of nice ankle boots for $70 off is definitely a good deal. I’m really bummed they didn’t fit my prego feet!
As far as shopping online for the sale goes…I would say this is totally not worth it. The website ended up going down, so they didn’t get my order until 12 hours after I placed it and one of my items sold out. It is a a really great way to preview the sale however, and get an idea of if some of the items you’ve been wanting have gone on sale or not.
Is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Worth it?
After returning the items I purchased online, I went back to the store and bought a couple of things. I 100% think that shopping in-store is better than online in this case. I was able to walk through the store and weed out a bunch of items that I knew wouldn’t look good on me right away, instead of staring at them online and trying to picture them on my body. Shopping this way I did find a skirt, a t-shirt, a pair of sunglasses, and a little knit sweater for Baby Girl that I absolutely LOVE!
To answer the question ‘is the Nordstrom Anniversary sale worth it…’ I would have to say no. The sale is way over hyped in my opinion. Most people can’t afford to go broke just to shop a sale, so unless you don’t mind spending on average $50-$100 per item, this sale probably isn’t for you. I think the best tip I have for someone who wants to shop the sale, is to buy only a couple of items that you really want, you know will sell out before the next sale, or that is unlikely to come on sale again before the season you would be purchasing it for is over. For example, the boots I mentioned above…I’ve been watching them for at least 3-4 months and they’ve never gone on sale. I don’t fear that they’ll sell out, but given the fact that they haven’t gone on sale since I found them, and they’re currently on sale for $70 off, plus they’re a brand I trust, I would consider them worth the price. Plus, if you think about the next time Nordstrom may have a big sale, it would probably be Black Friday, and the fall season for which I’d be purchasing the boots would be pretty much over.
If you’re in the mood to shop but can’t afford Nordstrom prices, I would recommend checking out Nordstrom Rack! During the anniversary sale I actually shopped online at Nordstrom Rack and bought a pair of really cute army green pants for fall and a weekend duffel bag that I plan on using for my hospital labor and delivery bag, all for less than $50.
There’s also Lulu’s, which is quite possibly my favorite online boutique. They had a great 30% off sale plus free express shipping for Amazon Prime Day and I found two pairs of super cute heels, regularly $40 each, that I got for $17 for BOTH OF THEM! #Steal!!

I TOTALLY agree. I think the NSale is not worth the insane amount of hype BUT I think it’s definitely something to look at when you have fall items in mind AND a clear budget and stick to it. A sale is never worth breaking the bank over but it’s nice to go into a new season with new items already on hand.

Yeah I def think you can find a few great things if you prepare. I do wish ALL their fall items came on sale, instead of a just a select few!

I agree with you! There are definitely some great pieces on sale but it always seems like it’s the same stuff over and over again!

Yeah you’re totally right, and the same brands too (which I don’t necessarily mind cause I love Topshop and Halogen, but it would be cool if Leith came on sale to!).

I’m so torn on this one. I love the sale every year, but this year I didn’t find quite as many bargains as I have in years past. I definitely agree with you on in-store v. online — I always have much more success at the store!

Bummer that you didn’t find as many good deals this year! I’m the same 🙁 Thanks for reading! xoxo

You’re so right especially this year! I looked around and m’eh there was nothing exciting at all. Maybe I’ll try instore or maybe I should just keep my money lol. I’ve had some good finds in previous year but I think it’s definitely overhyped.
