Happy first post of the year lovelies! I hope you all had a great New Year’s – leave me a comment below with some New Year’s Resolution ideas, I’m come up with a few for myself, but I’m always looking for new ideas!

For today’s post, I want to share with you guys some tips that I’ve learned for mixing and matching different patterns and prints. I like to step out of my comfort zone sometimes and wear a bright color along with something more neutral, and I also think it can be fun to wear two different patterns, like I did here with a floral print skirt and polka dot top.

One of the most important tips that I’ve learned about mixing and matching patterns, is to keep your patterns in the same color family. For example, you wouldn’t want to pair a neon skirt with a jewel toned top. These two patterns worked well together because there is a small amount of black in the skirt, so adding a black blouse and boots didn’t clash.

The other tip that I think is super important when mixing and matching prints, is that it usually looks better when you mix and match two different patters (like here, with a floral skirt and a blouse with small polka dots). It is possible to mix and match two of the same patterns, but in my opinion it is harder to make it look like it actually works and isn’t just a hot mess.

Now for the outfit details…this skirt is one of my fav’s to wear in all seasons and is from INC International Concepts from Macy’s. I love that it has different colors that I can pair lots of different tops with, and the fit is super flirty! I love the movement that you get in the skirt. Here is a similar style that I think is stinkin’ adorable as well!

The boots I’ve actually worn before in my Winter Date Night look here. They’re from Steve Madden (available here) and they are so comfortable. I did learn a little trick to make them stay up though – get yourself some OTK socks! It helps SO much! A big thank you to my girl Rachel for the tip 😉

This blouse from H&M (similar here) caught my eye because of the keyhole back and the interesting cuff on the sleeve. I thought it was something different, plus I’ve seen a lot of blouses lately that have a detailed cuff, and I think they’re going to be a hot trend for 2017.

The last detail that I added was my furry clutch from Full Addition that I really love – it’s absolutely perfect for winter! There is a really similar one here that I’m freaking in love with, it’s a little more fancy than the one I have, which I think is great for pairing with winter looks.
