Welcome back b-listers, how’re all you lovely people doing today?! I did a bunch of shooting with fellow blogger, Rachel, from the blog One Pot Slop when it was sunny outside (we shot 7 looks total!!!) and this neutral monochrome outfit was one of my favorites!

My inspo behind this look was thinking about how to elevate your look so that you appear more high fashion. We all are guilty (or at least I am) of purchasing a bunch of really inexpensive pieces when we are on a shopping spree – I know for me, I tend to lose my head when I’m in the mood to shop and start buying stuff just cause it’s cheap or on sale. Then I struggle with the question of “how to make this look more high fashion and expensive.” I definitely don’t want to look like I’m wearing cheap clothes when I go out on the town girl!

My go-to rule for this dilemma, is a monochrome outfit. You guys have probably noticed that I wear a lot of black and grey and I tend to wear them in monochrome outfits, but you can totally do the same with neutral colors and it will seriously take your look to the next level.

For this look, I paired a dusty pink silky sleeveless tank with a criss-cross back from Express with white skinny jeans (ahem….jeggings…), nude lace-up ballet flats and a blush long knit cardigan from Old Navy.

I’ve been really attracted to this dusty pink color lately, and I love that this top from Express (similar here) has a fun detail in the back. I much prefer wearing something with an interesting back than a revealing front. The white jeggings (similar here) I actually got FOR FREE from my friend Tarryn who was giving them away to Goodwill, and I managed to squeeze my big butt in to them for this shoot, but then decided that they really actually don’t fit lol. So they are going to Goodwill and I am going to Macy’s to buy a pair in a size that actually fits me!

If you guys have been following me for awhile, then you’ve definitely seen the ballet flats. I bought them at a small shoe store in NW Portland, but there is a very similar and affordable style here that you guys can check out.

You may also notice my Express clutch that I’m carrying (it makes regularly appearances 😉 ). I love this clutch because it is neutral but has a pop of color with the jewels. The jewels also elevate the clutch to make it look a bit more spendy (similar here).

Finally, the cardigan. Again, if you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I’ve been obsessed with Old Navy this season, which is where I got this cardigan (available in different colors here). It’s the perfect length for my tall frame, and it’s so nice and cozy, I wear it to work and around the house and I wish I had gotten it in another color so I could wear it all the time lol.

Now that I’ve described the pieces that I chose, what do you guys think about the overall outfit? All of these pieces are under $30.00, but don’t you think the outfit as a whole could be something you’d see on Marianna Hewitty or Chriselle LIm? I don’t know, maybe I’m kidding myself, but I definitely think that keeping my outfit pieces in the same color family (neutrals), I’ve managed to elevate an otherwise cheap outfit into something that appears more expensive 🙂

Am I wrong? Let me know!

xo,

B
