Next stop, Corniglia!
Corniglia is the only village in the Cinque Terre that is not located right on the water, but actually high above at the top of a cliff. To get there, we hiked the Trail #2 Sentiero Azzurro again. The trail was maybe a hair less challenging than the Monterosso-Vernazza stretch, but it had just as many stairs!
In Corniglia we rented an AirBnB apartment for the night. It was a super cute little flat, with plenty of room for the three of us and gorgeous view of the mountainside. It was off a side street from the main square, which meant that it was peaceful and quiet and we were able to get a really good nights sleep! If you are interested in checking it out, click here, I definitely recommend it as a perfect spot to stay in Corniglia!
FYI – just because Corniglia is located high above the coast, doesn’t mean there isn’t any beach! If you climb about 300 stairs down to a small marina, you’ll come across a rocky area with a bunch of people swimming. We definitely found this spot to be well worth the extra stair climbing because it was so beautiful. It was actually kind of amazing, while we were swimming in the water it started raining on us. It was a sweet and breathtaking moment for all three of us.
Another really cool thing to do in Corniglia is to just wander the streets. There are a couple really beautiful churches you can go in to and the views are amazing from the top of the village.
The town square in Corniglia is also really fun, especially in the evening. There are a couple of restaurants right in the square (don’t go to the one in the above picture in the yellow building though, it is no bueno!).
I think the best part about Corniglia though, is the sunset. If you climb up to the top of the village there is a little lookout area where you can see the other villages in the distance and watch the sun set over the ocean. It was definitely a site to see!
Check back on Friday for the last stop on the Cinque Terre tour, Manarola and Riomaggiore!
