The scariest part of buying a new home? Getting a huge ass loan (need tips? read this post). The best? Decorating!! I’ve always loved decorating, but before buying a home, I hadn’t nailed down my home decor style. When we found our new place with all it’s natural light, modern fixtures, and original (I’m talking over 60 years old) hardwood floors, I knew I wanted to pair the home’s original vintage feel with my more modern style. After copious research, I discovered mid-century modern furniture and just about ran away in fear of the crazy high prices I saw! Damn, why is mid-century modern furniture so expensive??? Well…if you didn’t know, I’m the OG bargain hunting queen. 😉 So if you love mid-century modern but hate the price tag, this post is for you!

Home Furniture Stores I Love
OK, so if I had unlimited moneys and could buy whatever I wanted, I’d have a West Elm home. Buuut that’s def not the case so I’ve had to shop smart. There are some items that I would recommend splurging on (this could be a whole other post!) but overall, budget shopping is going to serve you better. Here’s a list of some of my favorite furniture stores that specialize in that mid-century modern style:
- West Elm – expensive AF but also I’m obsessed with their mid-century modern furniture. We were two seconds from purchasing the Harmony Modular Sectional for our living room because it’s so comfy and chic! Ended up going a different route because it was too big for our space, but it’s still my favorite couch.
- **TIP** – shop their Open Box Deals for huuuge discounts! I purchased a rug that way and saved so much on it! They also have outlet stores and you can call the locations if you’re looking for a specific piece. Also, you can purchase floor models for up to 50% off!
- Anthropologie – I love Anthropologie but I’ll admit, they are way outta my price range. Their pieces are absolutely beautiful, especially their floor mirrors, so they deserve an honorable mention.
Mid-Century Modern Furniture Stores with Mid-Range Prices
West Elm and Anthro are pretty spendy, but there are tons of places to shop with more affordable prices. Here are a few of my favorite online stores that sell mid-century modern furniture.
- All Modern – I love All Modern for their sales. They have some really great decor and lighting pieces and if you take advantage of seasonal sale prices, you can save so much! You can shop by style too which is handy. They also have Open Box deals!
- Interior Define – My favorite thing about this brand/store is the customization. The prices are still on the up side, but the amount of customization options available is next level. Despite the fact that their website has almost 5 star reviews across the board, I have heard from some that they’ve had negative experiences with the customer service, long wait periods for their orders, and quality issues. I ordered the Sloan Sectional from Interior Define and so far, my experience has been positive. I will definitely keep you posted!
- Inside Weather – I randomly happened across this brand (probably saw an ad on IG, let’s be real) and I’m obsessed. Great prices, tons of customization options, and if you sign up for their e-mail list you get $50 off your first purchase!
- Wayfair – OK, so this one was hard for me. I def got on that “save the children” train when the Wayfair scandal first came out. Then I did some further research and long story short, I don’t know if I believe all the hype. Regardless though, I can’t deny Wayfair has some AMAZING mid-century modern furniture and at super affordable prices. I’ve ordered several pieces from here already. Everything shipped pretty quickly which was great, especially during COVID and the crazy forest fires affecting the PNW.
- Overstock – super similar to Wayfair but for some reason, I’m still partial to the latter. I did order a lamp from Overstock though for the house and love it, so I still def recommend this site!
Surprising Places to Shop for Mid-Century Styles
Below is a list of a few additional stores that carry mid-century modern furniture. You have to dig a little deep and the styles are usually online, but they’re more accessible than the exclusively online brands.
- Walmart – tons of pieces and extremely affordable prices
- Target – you can find a lot of their mid-century modern piece in store, and there’s even more online! I found the same TV console at Target as the one I purchased at Wayfair. Be sure to check other sites to compare prices though!
- Amazon – all of the perks of the previous too but with Free Shipping for Prime members! I also found the exact same TV console that I bought at Wayfair (and that is available at Target) for $30 less than I paid! Seriously y’all, do your research and compare prices!
- Ikea – OK, this one probably isn’t a surprise since Scandinavian and mid-century is what they’re known for, but it’s still worth mentioning!
I’ve mentioned these tips before, but another way to save money is by using money-back apps like Rakuten and Wikibuy. I’ve just started using Wikibuy and it’s great because it looks at the item you’re buying and checks to see if it can find the same item elsewhere for less. I saved $20 bucks on a bench seat for our living room that way! I was gonna purchase it on Amazon and Wikibuy told me it was available for less on Ebay, so of course I snagged it!
Rakuten is great too because you get a percentage of your purchase back in cash. I’ve saved almost $200 since the beginning of the year using Rakuten!
I hope this post was helpful! Let me know in the comments if there are any other spots you recommend for home decor shopping, and I’ll share them on IG!
